Boys’ Lacrosse Update

The following information was provided by the boys’ lacrosse team

We had a terrific week, first defeating powerhouse Wellesley 5-4. Total team win, big upset and probably one of the biggest wins in our program’s history. We scored with a minute and a half left to tie it up, then junior mid Tim Miller scored with 40 seconds left to go up 5-4. Our D, backed by Matt Millard in net and Sr Captain Dean Holbrook on D, were amazing all game. Overall just a huge game, well rounded with five different scorers.

Thursday night we came out firing, going up 4-1 after first quarter. Natick stepped it up big time and scored six unanswered to make it 7-4 at halftime. We were losing the ground ball battles and taking bad penalties. The third quarter was back and forth. We ended up being down 11-7 with four minutes left, called a time out, and said one goal every minute and we scored two quick, to get to within 11-9, then scored two more to tie it. With about 1:20 we scored to go up one. They scored with 30 seconds to tie it and went to OT, then double OT. Both teams had opportunities in both OT’s, both goalies played terrific. Two minutes into the second OT, junior mid Liam Vernon cleared the ball all the way down to our attack and jr Attack Kevin O’Rourke scored his second goal of the game and was the game winner for the 13-12 double OT win. Senior Billy Cavanaugh was terrific at the face off X in the second half, and also scored 5 goals and 1 assist. Junior mid Tim Miller, junior mid Tom Costello and senior attack Nick Anson all scored two goals a piece.

We have won the last six games, including the last four by one goal. With this win we clinch a playoff seed which is one of our goals coming into the season. Still lots of lacrosse left to play.
