Theatre Guild Seeks Support of Wamp Nation This Weekend
by Kerri Donaghue
First, see an outrageous tale of an overworked employee and his zombie roommate in “Befriendead”, written and directed by Mr. Grigas. Then in “Waiting”, directed by Mr. Dahlbeck, watch as a man’s frustration and desperation increases as he sits in a waiting room for eternity. After that you will see two student-directed plays, “AP Theatre”, directed by John O’Connell, and “Balcony Scene”, directed by Nick D’Amico. “AP Theatre” is a hilarious account of a student faced with the overwhelming task of writing three short plays to pass his “AP Theatre” exam. Finally, “Balcony Scene” tells the story of a man who hears what people really thought of him as he attends his own funeral.
On Saturday March 1st the cast and crew of “Balcony Scene” traveled to Marblehead to compete in the preliminary round of the annual METG theatre festival. After a long day of theatre including eight performances, a dance, and an awards ceremony, “Balcony Scene” did not move on to the semi-final round of competition, but took home two awards for outstanding acting. Facing tough competition from some of the best schools in eastern Massachusetts, Braintree’s performance of “Balcony Scene” stood as a strong contender.
Braintree High School’s one act plays will be performed on Thursday March 6th at 7 pm, Friday March 7th at 8pm, and Saturday March 8th at 2pm and 8pm in the Grabosky Auditorium. After two months of dedication and hard work, developing characters, memorizing lines, and building sets, the cast and crew is excited to put on four great shows for you! Come out and show your Wamp Nation spirit by supporting the talented students of Braintree High School’s Theatre Guild as they perform. Tickets will be on sale at all lunches during the week of March 3rd and online here. For more information contact the Theatre Guild Advisor Mr. Dahlbeck at firstname.lastname@example.org.
