The Taster: Pulled Pork Sandwich at Wendy’s
by The Taster
On an excursion with my friends this past weekend we made a nice pit-stop at Wendy’s. We got to enjoy this meal outside on one of the Wendy’s benches which made the experience even better. Wendy’s is nostalgic for me in the sense that whenever I am home “sick” from school, my mom goes out and gets me a Junior Bacon Cheeseburger (JBC), french fries, baked potato with melted cheese, and I get to enjoy an hour on the couch watching the Price is Right, yelling during the PLINKO game as I stuffed my face.
This time however, I noticed that Wendy’s was offering something a little out of their comfort zone, a BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich, and figured it would be a great opportunity for the Taster to sink his/her teeth into the newest sandwich.
Pulled Pork Sandwich: 8/10
When you think of Wendy’s, pulled pork is probably the last thing you think of. But they have come out flying and surprisingly did a very good job incorporating quality pork, a beautiful bun, and a terrific crisp slaw to balance out the flavor and texture of the sandwich. There are three BBQ sauces you can choose from: spicy, sweet, or smokey. I chose sweet and it was delicious. My only complaint would be that there wasn’t enough sauce, and without the help of the slaw, could have been a little dry. The slaw was crisp and crunchy and added some freshness to the pork, and it was all put on a brioche’ bun.
As Wendy’s is going through updates (Abington establishment for example) they are adding the new Coke machines with endless possibilities to each restaurant. I love having the option to add lime and raspberry flavor to my ginger ale (to make a ricky), or add vanilla to my orange soda (to make a creamsicle).
Yes, I consider a junior bacon cheeseburger a side. And it is one of the best burgers out there, it is a solid, classic burger all around. The Wendy’s fries I feel are some of the best, always crisp and a little more hearty than McDonald’s fries.
Overall: 9/10 – Taster Approved
Just a terrific meal overall, felt great afterwards, not too full but just solidly satisfied. Each ingredient complimented each other well, and together they made a delicious lunch.
